Fishing Line

Bass fishing

It may seem like fishing line is a “dry” subject but you MUST know which to use for your situation. We all probably started out on a kids pole with that heavy clear line and a worm. You know there is a good reason for that.

Bass can be found in almost every area of the US and in many locations around the world. The structure they are found around varies from wood and grass to rocky points, boulders and channels. Water color varies from clear to heavily stained with colors of green, brown and white silt. So with all the variables it would be asking quite a lot of that little string to be the best for all situations.

Something tough and invisible like fluorocarbon is all that will produce. This is the king of clear water but its uses don't stop there. It can be added to others to defeat their shortcomings.

Monofilament is the most common and affordable stuff on the market. It has been modified, colored and probably is on one or more of your poles right now. This fishing line does have some draw backs and may not be the best for how YOU fish.

Not all brands will perform the same as another. Each manufacturer tries to find its own niche and they all claim to be the best. Different chemicals and processes are used and the choices seem to be endless. When you think of primitive man catching fish, anything we have today is better. Brand name selection is a matter of preference and experience. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The new kid on the block is braided line . Extreme duty is where this finds its home. New technology has made small diameters perform like much heavier traditional ones. However even this is not acceptable everywhere.

Back to the very basic techniques for catching fish, fly line definitely has its place among bass fisherman. There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding fly fishing, but after you learn to cast, catching fish is just a blast! A “small” bass will get your juices flowing if caught on a fly rod. Bass do have special requirements and some of your trout gear won't cut it.

So,all of this should not be an after thought. It should be factored into your plan to catch more bass. This process starts at home when you decide where you are going to fish. Type of bait or lure, water color and clarity and what type of rod and reel combo lead you to the best line. Spool 'em up and get out on the water!
