Nail Knot
The nail knot is used when you need to attach your fly line to your reel, or put on a leader if the working end of your line is damaged. There really is no substitute for this well tied knot. As well, there really is no where else that it is used in fishing normally.

A normal drinking straw or small metal tube helps greatly with this. Lay your fly line, your backing, and the straw next to each other. Obviously the fly line's working end points the opposite way of the backing.

Start by winding the backing away from you, around itself and the fly line. Do this 5 times ending up at the tag end of the fly line.

While holding the wraps, pass the working end of your backing through the straw or along side it to get back under the wraps. You are passing the line back toward the starting point through the wraps.

Hold the wraps and pull the standing end of the backing while adjusting the wraps to keep them tight.
